Barn of Horrors
For almost century now, factory farming has taken an unprecedented impact on the United States. Those subject to factory farming are chickens, pigs, and cows; these are common sources of food for Americans, whether it be in our burgers, chicken nuggets or morning bacon. Barn of Horrors is a piece created to confront the way these animals are mistreated and exploited in our modern world. In turn, the viewer will have to face internal conflict with their decisions and how they play the role as a consumer in our America.
Presented in a diorama structure, most of the material is wood to give an overall rustic
barn feeling that many Americans would ideally like are food to come from. But the inside is
intended to present an accurate depiction of the confined conditions of the creatures. This
work is a confrontation to the conflicting thoughts and feelings many Americans appear to
have about our food.
